Basic Well Log Analysis, 2nd Edition

Basic Well Log Analysis, 2nd Edition

gotoshop

Product Details

Basic Well Log Analysis is a general introduction to common openhole logging measurements, both wire line and MWD/LWD, and the interpretation of those measurements to determine the traditional analytical goals of porosity, fluid saturation, and lithology/mineralogy. It is arranged by the interpretation goals of the data, rather than by the underlying physics of the measurements.

The accompanying CD-ROM contains digital versions of the data from the case studies, a summary guide to the measurements and their interpretation, and a simple spreadsheet containing some of the more common interpretation algorithms.

This Second Edition of Basic Well Log Analysis delivers a great impact on training and self-training along with superior workbook exercises, newer measurements, borehole imaging, and nuclear magnetic resonance in separate chapters, all directed to provide a guide through the lengthy and sometimes ambiguous terminology of well logging and petrophysics. It provides readers with interpretation examples (and solutions) so that the techniques described here can be practiced.

American Association Of Petroleum Engineers (AAPG)

Founded in 1917, we are the world's largest professional geological society, with over 30,000 members.

We are a pillar of the world-wide scientific community. Our books foster scientific research, advance the science of geology and promote the most effective use of petroleum extraction & processing technology and practice.

Some of the areas we publish in include:

Better than nothing - John T. Knight -
This book is OK but that is about as far as it goes. A lot of information is presented but there is not really any step-by-step guidance. It reminds me of the log interpretation book you can download from the Schlumberger website for free. The excercises at the back of the book were a good idea that was implemented poorly. In excercise 1 you get the impression that the authors were looking at slightly different logs than those presented, given the partial answers and comentary shown. In excercise 2, they ARE looking at different logs. They present the exact same eletric logs twice. The second time, the electric logs have a porosity header...but it the same electric log previously shown. Have fun figuring out what the porosity is supposed to be for that excercise. Disappointing.

Environmental Oceanography: Topics and Analysis

Environmental Oceanography: Topics and Analysis

gotoshop

Product Details

Environmental Oceanography is a scientifically-based, multidisciplinary text that uses critical thinking and case studies to teach principles of oceanography and focuses on the importance of, and threats to, the marine environment. The text uses an innovative approach to teaching environmental oceanography, consisting of marine environmental issues presented as self-contained analytical exercises, with information and questions on sustainability integrated throughout. Appropriate for a wide range of readers, Environmental Oceanography works well as a stand-alone text, a lab-based course book, and as a supplement to main texts in oceanography and marine science for those instructors who would like to add an active learning focus to their course. Regardless of whether you are teaching a large or small course, Environmental Oceanography will engage and excite your students and prompt them to think critically about pressing environmental issues.

Great coverage; however pictures are all in black and white - Andrew -
The book is a visual disappointment. I have seen some of these photos in other locations, and they are beautiful. This book shrinks and presents all photos, chart and graphs in gray. Good pictures add quite a bit to a text, and the lack of good pictures subtract substantially from this text. On the other hand the seller has great service, and having the text in low quality black and white may keep the cost down. The information presented in this text is easy to read well written accurate and up to date.

GIS and Spatial Analysis for the Social Sciences: Coding, Mapping, and Modeling (Contemporary Sociological Perspectives)

GIS and Spatial Analysis for the Social Sciences: Coding, Mapping, and Modeling (Contemporary Sociological Perspectives)

gotoshop

Product Details

This is the first book to provide sociologists, criminologists, political scientists, and other social scientists with the methodological logic and techniques for doing spatial analysis in their chosen fields of inquiry.

The book contains a wealth of examples as to why these techniques are worth doing, over and above conventional statistical techniques using SPSS or other statistical packages.

GIS is a methodological and conceptual approach that allows for the linking together of spatial data, or data that is based on a physical space, with non-spatial data, which can be thought of as any data that contains no direct reference to physical locations.

Site Analysis: A Contextual Approach to Sustainable Land Planning and Site Design

Site Analysis: A Contextual Approach to Sustainable Land Planning and Site Design

gotoshop

Product Details

Site analysis is the key to a well-designed project. In fact, the careful and complete analysis of a site and its surrounding context can lead to better development proposals, smoother design implementation, and, ultimately, higher quality built environments.

This carefully conceived book is the first to detail each crucial step in the site analysis and planning process, from site selection through design development. It shows how these activities are integrated to arrive at a site plan that successfully balances the needs of the client and other stakeholders with the site's suitability for the intended land uses. With more than 130 illustrations, this book includes many outstanding examples of maps and site plans created by leading land planning firms. It offers guidance on:

* Site identification, evaluation, and selection
* Site inventories of physical, biological, and cultural attributes
* Land use suitability analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
* Concept planning and design development
* Graphic communication with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders

Filled with need-to-know information on the entire land planning and design process, Site Analysis is a vital addition to the library of students and professionals in landscape architecture, urban design and planning, and related areas.

This book will fill a void in the academic market by offering a comprehensive introduction to all stages of the site analysis process. The Second Edition of Site Analysis will detail each phase of the land planning and site design process, explain the influence of site and contextual conditions conditions on land use development and conservation decisions. It will also provide a valuable resource for professionals seeking design solutions for successful land use.

Content from this book is available as an online continuing professional education course at http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-320255.html#sustainable_site.  WileyCPE courses are available on demand, 24 hours a day, and are approved by the American Institute of Architects.
